The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles are a professional rugby league team, based in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney, New South Wales. They compete in the National Rugby League (NRL).
📜 Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles History
Manly-Warringah joined one of the NRL's forerunners, the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) Premiership, in 1947, and quickly became associated with both their now-traditional home colours of maroon and white, as well as the sea eagle insignia.
It took just 4 years for the new franchise to reach the Premiership grand final, but they would have to wait until 1972 to win one, when they beat Eastern Suburbs 19-14. That first title spurred the side on: they would claim a further 5 titles between 1973 and 1996.
In 1999, the Sea Eagles merged with the North Sydney Bears, becoming the Northern Eagles until 2003, when the Sea Eagles re-entered the NRL on a standalone basis, following the financial and organisational failure of the merger. Though they had only just returned to the league, it only took a couple of years for Manly-Warringah to return to their former glory: they reached the NRL finals once again in 2005, beginning a streak of 10 consecutive years in the play-offs, which included title-winning seasons in 2008 and 2011.
