📜 Manchester City WFC History
The club was founded in 1988 as Manchester City Ladies FC by members of the City men's team's community scheme. One such member was Community Officer Neil Mather, who subsequently served as the team's first manager.
In 2014, City achieved promotion to the Women's Super League and became fully professional, marking their achievement with a raft of high-profile signings including England international trio Steph Houghton, Jill Scott, and Karen Bardsley.
With backing from the men's team and their much-improved playing squad, City have won plenty of silverware in the years since including the WSL title and multiple FA Cups and League Cups, joining the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea among the dominant forces in English women's football.
