Having had its inaugural edition put back a year by the Coronavirus pandemic, anticipation was sky-high before the 2021 Mallorca Championships: until 2021, no ATP event had been staged in Mallorca, and no ATP event in Spain had used grass courts before. Despite being the first event of its kind, the first Mallorca Championships was a great success, though in truth that came as little surprise: the Mallorca Championships is produced in association with Wimbledon, and designed as a luxurious and exciting warm-up for the Grand Slam. The grass courts at the host venue, the Mallorca Country Club, are based on those at the All England Club, and the Mallorca Championships' player fields have been suitably high-profile, too: Pablo Carreño Busta, Feliciano Lopez, Daniil Medvedev, Denis Shapovalov, Dominic Thiem, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are among those to have competed on the Balearic Island.
