The London Broncos is a professional rugby league club which competes in the Super League, the highest tier of England's rugby league club structure. The club is based in Wimbledon, London, and plays its matches at Plough Lane stadium, having previously played at grounds such as Craven Cottage, the StoneX Stadium (Barnet Copthall), Twickenham Stoop, and Griffin Park, among others. The club's home colours are black, red, and white.
Despite a number of efforts to found a capital city rugby league club in the 1930's, London did not have a major representative in the game until then-Fulham Football Club chairman Ernie Clay founded the London Broncos in 1980. Clay's move surprised many, but the team – then known as Fulham Rugby League Football Club – was soon established and it began ground-sharing with Fulham FC at Craven Cottage. Almost 10,000 fans are reported to have attended the team's first match at the ground, which was a surprise victory over Wigan Warriors.
With the exception of some yo-yoing between the divisions in the early 1980's, Fulham RLFC remained in Division 2 for much of the decade and into the early 1990's. In 1991 the club was rebranded as the London Crusaders, but this name change only lasted 3 years, as in 1994 the team became known as the London Broncos. Promotion to Division 1 followed in 1996, before the team reached the Super League for the first time in 1996; due to the restructuring necessitated by the Super League project, the Broncos did not technically get promoted into the new league, but the team was good value for its top-flight status, only getting relegated again in 2015.
The club returned to the Super League in 2019, but was relegated again after just 1 campaign. In 2022 the side moved to Plough Lane as part of a ground-sharing agreement with AFC Wimbledon. Following a successful Championship season in 2023 the Broncos won promotion back to the top tier ahead of the 2024 season.
The home venue of London Broncos is Cherry Red Records Stadium (Plough Lane) in London. Away games will usually be played at the rival team's home venue.
