The Sharks are the football team of Long Island University in Brookville, New York. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Northeast Conference.
๐ LIU Sharks Football History
LIU fielded its first football team in 1928, but the program was suspended in 1940 in response to the Second World War. In 1957, following the opening of a new university campus in Brookville, the football program was reintroduced.
In 2018, LIU merged the athletics programs at its 2 campuses, and the LIU Post Pioneers from the C. W. Post campus in Brookville became the LIU Sharks. The Sharks inherited membership of the Northeast Conference from the sports teams at the Brooklyn campus, meaning LIU football moved immediately to Division I without the customary transition period.
The Sharks play their home games at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
