Leyton Orient are a professional football club based in London, England. Orient play their home games at Brisbane Road.
📜 Leyton Orient History
Founded in 1881, Orient are the 2nd-oldest professional football club in London after Fulham. They were founded by members of Glyn Cricket Club and bore that name until 1886, when they became Eagle Cricket Club, before changing their name again 2 years later to Orient FC.
The Orient name is believed to have originated from player Jack Dearing, and employee of the Orient Steam Navigation Company, now P&O. A further decade on, in 1898, they became Clapton Orient; it was not until after the Second World War that they became Leyton Orient, and from 1966 until 1987 they reverted back to simply Orient.
In 1921, the O's had the pleasure of beating Notts County 3-0 in front of future king Edward VIII, in what was the first Football League match attended by a member of the royal family.
Orient's 112-year tenure in the Football League came to an end when – amid mismanagement and financial crisis – they were relegated to the National League in 2017, but they returned to the EFL 2 years later after earning promotion back into League Two.
