The Las Vegas Aces, also known simply as the Aces, are a professional women's basketball team based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Aces ply their trade in the Western Conference of the Women's National Basketball Association and their home arena is Michelob Ultra Arena.
Las Vegas Aces History
The Aces were founded in 1997 as the Utah Starzz, 1 of the 8 founding members of the WNBA. Their name was an amalgamation of the former American Basketball Association team, the Utah Stars, and the NBA's Utah Jazz, whom they were affiliated with.
The Starzz had little success, particularly in their first 4 years as they failed to reach the WNBA Playoffs, and in 2002 the franchise was sold to the San Antonio Spurs, at which point they became the San Antonio Silver Stars (in 2013 they would drop the "Silver" from their name).
Like in Utah, it took the Silver Stars 4 years to reach the playoffs following their relocation, but they eventually became regulars in the post-season competition and in 2008 they reached the WNBA Finals for the first time, albeit they were unable to bring home the trophy.
In 2017 the franchise moved once again to Las Vegas, and the Aces have enjoyed success in recent years, lifting the Commissioner's Cup in 2022 and back-to-back WNBA Championships in 2022 and 2023.
