Arias and instrumental music by, among others, Barbara Strozzi (1619–1677), Isabella Leonarda (1620–1704), Francesca Campana (1615–1665), Maurizio Cazzati (1616–1678) and Nicola Mattei (1650–1713)
Description
The concert programme “Wonder Women” is dedicated to women. On the one hand, it is a tribute to all those wonderful female composers of the 17th century. At the same time, it also honours all the talented female musicians of every era who, for centuries, had to hide their talent behind that of their husbands or give up their careers prematurely. On the other hand, Christina Pluhar has also drawn inspiration from traditional North American and Italian music. The programme features songs about extraordinary, strong and courageous women, as well as sad ones. First and foremost is the wonderful Mexican song “La Bruja” (The Witch), which symbolises the freedom of all women at all times and in all cultures. Join Luciana Mancini, Benedetta Mazzucato, Vincenzo Capezzuto, Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata in celebrating women in all their facets and with all their talents. An event organised by the City of Hannover.
