The Leopards are the football team of Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Patriot League.
📜 Lafayette Leopards Football History
Lafayette College claims one of the oldest college football teams in the US, with its program dating to 1882. Originally known as the Maroon, the team adopted the Leopards nickname in 1924.
The Leopards competed as an independent school from 1882 until 1928. In 1929, Lafayette joined Rutgers and Lehigh in the Middle Three Conference, an unofficial conference that lasted until 1975.
Following another spell of independence, the Leopards joined the Patriot League in 1986. The team enjoyed a particularly strong period between 2004 and 2006, winning the Patriot League championship for 3 consecutive seasons.
