LA Galaxy are a football team who play in Major League Soccer's Western Conference, based in Los Angeles.
History
Founded in 1994, they were one of MLS' founding members 2 years later. The name Galaxy is an homage to their Los Angeles location, LA being the home of Hollywood and its "stars." So too has the club boasted a number of star players over the years.
Galaxy gained global recognition in 2007 with the signing of Real Madrid and England midfielder David Beckham, who became MLS' first Designated Player – that is, a star player exempt from the league's salary cap.
The club have continued to sign high-profile talents in the years since including the likes of Steven Gerrard, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Javier Hernandez. Galaxy are among MLS' most successful teams, with multiple MLS Cups, Supporters' Shields, and US Open Cups to their name.
