Kilmarnock FC, often shorted simply to Killie, are a professional football club based in Kilmarnock, Scotland. They play their home fixtures at Rugby Park.
📜 Kilmarnock History
There is some dispute over the date Kilmarnock was founded by a group of local sports enthusiasts seeking a game to occupy them during the winter months. A general meeting of "Kilmarnock Foot-ball Club" on 5 January 1869 was advertised in the local newspaper as the club sort to formally organise itself, while a meeting held on 25 October 1872 saw "Kilmarnock Football Club" officially constituted in response to increasing membership numbers.
Regardless of their exact date of foundation in that period, Killie are the 2nd-oldest professional football club in Scotland after Queens Park, who approached them in 1873 as part of their efforts to form the Scottish Football Association.
Kilmarnock won the Scottish Cup for the first time in 1920. In 1960, they represented Scotland in the United States-based International Soccer League, where they beat reigning English champions Burnley and Bayern Munich before losing to Brazilian outfit Bangu Atlético Clube in the final.
It was in 1965 that Killie won the sole Scottish league title in their history.
