The Jayhawks are the football team of the University of Kansas in Lawrence. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA and play in the Big 12 Conference.
Kansas boasts one of the oldest college football teams west of the Mississippi River. Founded in 1890, the program has won 6 conference titles in its history. The most recent of these came in 1968, when the Jayhawks shared the Big Eight Conference Championship with Oklahoma.
The Jayhawks participated in one of the oldest college rivalry games with the Missouri Tigers, until the Tigers moved to the Southeastern Conference in 2012. The rivalry was known as the "Border War" after battles that took place on the border between Kansas and Missouri during the Civil War. Kansas "Jayhawkers" raided several towns in the pro-slavery Missouri, and Missouri "Bushwhackers" responded by burning the town of Lawrence, Kansas to the ground.
The Jayhawks play their home games at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
