Kansas City Current FC, often shortened to KC Current or simply the Current, are a professional women’s football club based in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. They compete in the National Women’s Soccer League, the top tier of women’s professional football in the country.
The club was established in 2020/21 after the earlier NWSL side FC Kansas City had folded and the Utah Royals’ player rights were relocated to Kansas City. Initially branded Kansas City NWSL, the team rebranded as Kansas City Current with a new crest and colours, signalling a long‑term commitment to women’s football in the region. Early home matches were played at a converted baseball venue before the organisation invested in a dedicated training centre and a purpose‑built riverfront stadium project, widely noted as a landmark for the women’s game. On the pitch, KC Current quickly became competitive, reaching the NWSL Championship final in 2022, a significant achievement for such a young club. Their rapid growth, ambitious facilities and strong local support have made them one of the most closely watched projects in women’s professional sport.
