Both Sean and Maya are Jazz Association (Singapore) scholars currently making waves in New York City, where they are pursuing their Masters in Jazz. Don’t miss this rare meeting of three generations of Singapore jazz musicians — an evening of swing, soul, and musical conversation at the highest level. 9, 10 & 11 July - Mark Turner - Special Show The Sound of Swing & Soul Mark Turner is a jazz multi-instrumentalist working across saxophone, guitar, and voice, shaped by the rhythmic language of swing and the expressive freedom of blues-based improvisation. His musical approach is grounded in core jazz practice: phrasing that breathes, melody that leads, and improvisation shaped in response to the ensemble rather than apart from it. Based in Perth, Turner’s development as a jazz musician has been formed through ensemble performance, where interaction and listening define the centre of the music. His work alongside swing-oriented groups such as Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys, as well as appearances with larger ensembles including the Perth Symphony Orchestra, reflects a practice shaped by both discipline and adaptability within jazz contexts. Alongside this, his work has been recognised through multiple music awards, including four performance-related honours and a cabaret award at Perth Fringe World Festival, as well as a nomination for WAM Song of the Year in his debut year as a songwriter and a semi-finalist placement in the Unsigned Only competition. Known for blending jazz and contemporary pop, he has appeared on Saturday Night Live alongside Sam Smith, performed at Birdland, and built a following through soulful originals and reinterpretations of modern and jazz standards. 7 & 8 August - Eugene Pao & Jeremy Monteiro Quartet - Special Show 40 Years of Friendship, Music and Jazz Advent ure In 1986, Jeremy Monteiro first heard Eugene Pao play at The Jazz Club in Hong Kong and was astonished to discover jazz guitar playing of such world-class depth, elegance and fire right here in Asia. That meeting began a friendship and musical collaboration that has now spanned 40 years. Since then, Eugene has worked with jazz greats including Randy Brecker, Eddie Gomez and Steve Gadd, while Jeremy has recorded and performed with artists such as Ernie Watts, Charlie Haden and Al Foster. Together, they have performed at the EFG London Jazz Festival, in China, with the Asian All Stars, and on recordings including a project with Laura Fygi.
