📜 Jacksonville State Gamecocks Football History
JSU's first football team was known as the Eagle Owls. After several decades of play, the program changed its name and colours ahead of the 1947 season. Where the Eagle Owls wore blue and gold, the new Fighting Gamecocks wore red and white.
The Gamecocks competed independently from 1950 to 1959, before moving between a number of different conferences. These included the Alabama Collegiate Conference, the Mid-South Athletic Conference, the Gulf South Conference, the Southland Conference, and the Ohio Valley Conference.
In 2021, Jacksonville State accepted an invitation to join Conference USA in the FBS, with membership beginning in the 2023 season.
The Gamecocks play their home games at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium.
