The historical centre, or Centro Storico, is perhaps the most picturesque area to stay in. This part of the city is brimming with beautiful architecture, streets lined with traditional shops, and quaint cafes. Visitors here will find themselves within walking distance of key attractions such as the Basilica della Ghiara, the Teatro Municipale, and the stunning Piazza Prampolini with its imposing Duomo.
Another popular area for tourists is the district around the Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana high-speed train station. Although more modern and less traditional than the historical centre, this area offers excellent accommodation options for those who may be using Reggio Emilia as a base to explore nearby cities such as Milan, Bologna, and Florence.
For a more relaxed stay, visitors might consider the residential areas surrounding the city centre. These districts provide a quieter experience and often feature charming boutique hotels and B&Bs that exude local character while still being conveniently accessible to the main sights.
The city centre is compact enough to explore on foot, and many of the attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. For longer distances, the local public transport system consisting of buses is reliable and frequent, and it can take you to most parts of the city and the outskirts. Alternatively, taxis are readily available and, for those who prefer to drive, the city is well connected by road, although parking in the centre can be challenging.
