To deep-dive into the history and culture of Parma, stay in North Centro, the city’s commercial and cultural centre. Not only are its biggest attractions here including the Palazzo del Governatore and Teatro Regio, but it is also filled with top bars, shops, and restaurants.
Whilst still being very central, South Centro is more relaxed and quiet than North Centro. With its high-end shops, fine-dining restaurants, and luxury hotels, it is also a little more upscale than its neighbour.
Cittadella also offers that Italian high-class edge but in a quieter and more suburban setting than South Centro. Between its pristine parks and small pizzarias, it offers a quaint local feel which is ideal for families who want a more low-key stay in the city.
For the best of Parma’s nightlife, head to the west banks of the Parma River to Oltretorrente. At night this student suburb is pulsing with excitement as its streets spill with bar and club goers. During the day, it is a cool and edgy area of the city to hang out and grab a coffee.
Families might also enjoy Pablo, a calm and reasonably priced neighbourhood adjoining Oltretorrente. Whilst it has its fair share of envy-inducing shops, bars, and restaurants, it’s most well-known for its beautiful green spaces including Parco delle Magnolie and Pardo Ducale.
Alternatively, opt to stay in the quintessential Italian countryside surrounding Parma. From apartments overlooking vineyards to luxury villas with giant pools, the rolling hills have something to offer everyone.
