Containing Bologna's most important landmarks, Centro Storico (the historic centre) is the perfect locale for first-time visitors who want to tick off their bucket list. The Basilica di San Petronio, the Two Towers, and many other incredible city highlights will be just a hop, skip, and a jump away.
The nearby University District is for those who want to see what the city has to offer after dark. Whether you want a cosy wine bar or an electric nightclub, this nightlife district will have the place for you.
Whilst Ghetto Ebracio also has its fair share of cool bars, its nightlife is much more laid-back. The ‘ghetto’ is preferred for its cafes, boutiques, vintage shops, and overall hipster vibe.
Known for their indie art spaces, San Donato and Fiera di Bologna will also appeal to an artsy crowd. Being more affordable than Bologna’s other central districts, they also offer those on a budget the most bang for their buck.
Bolognina, located next to the central train station, is another affordable neighbourhood. Known for its street art, multicultural cuisine, and alternative nightlife, it offers a more eccentric Bologna experience.
For authentic Bolognian living, stay in the quiet and scenic Quartiere Saragozza. With small Italian cafes and restaurants, it offers insight into local life. With plenty of calming green spaces too, it also offers a respite to families after spending a busy day in the city centre.
Whilst Bologna’s historic centre itself is very walkable, the local buses are required to reach some of its nearby neighbourhoods.
