Ireland's wheelchair rugby league team was formed prior to the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, and, following Norway's withdrawal from the 2021 tournament, they will make their second World Cup appearance later this year. In 2013, Ireland could not progress from the group stage but they'll be hoping to take Australia, Spain, and hosts England by surprise this time round. Away from Rugby League World Cups, Ireland's wheelchair rugby league team has competed at all 5 Celtic Cups.
Like many of Ireland's national sports teams, the wheelchair rugby league team represents the whole island of Ireland. The team's nickname, the Wolfhounds, is not only used by the Irish rugby league teams, but the Irish rugby union second team too; the rugby union team should not be confused with the rugby league "Wolfhounds".
