Interpol are an American alternative rock band from Manhattan, New York City, United States. Formed in 1997, the classic line-up featured Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler, Carlos Dengler and Greg Drudy, with Sam Fogarino replacing Drudy on drums in 2000. The group became closely associated with New York’s turn-of-the-century indie scene and the post-punk revival movement.
Their music blends indie rock, alternative rock and post-punk revival, marked by sombre atmospheres, interlocking guitars and Banks’ distinctive baritone vocals. Interpol’s debut album "Turn On the Bright Lights" (2002) won widespread critical acclaim and is often cited as a landmark release of the era, followed by "Antics" (2004) and "Our Love to Admire" (2007), which expanded their international profile. The band later issued "Interpol" (2010), "El Pintor" (2014), "Marauder" (2018) and "The Other Side of Make-Believe" (2022).
Notable songs include "PDA", "NYC", "Obstacle 1", "Slow Hands", "Evil", "Barricade", "All the Rage Back Home" and "The Rover". Interpol continue to record and tour worldwide.
