The Internazionali BNL d'Italia, also known as the Italian Open, is regarded as one of the most important clay court tennis tournaments on the calendar. The event was first held at the Milan Tennis Club in 1930, and after a 5-year stint in Milan, moved to the Foro Italico in Rome, where it is still held today. The event currently boasts a place on both the ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tours, making it a highly-prized title for both male and female players alike.
Clay specialist Rafael Nadal unsurprisingly holds the tournament record on his preferred surface, with 10 Roman titles, having reached double figures at the 2021 tournament.
In true Italian style, the Internazionali BNL d'Italia is synonymous with high fashion, fine food, and celebrity musical performances. It's time to dust-off that Armani suit or get yourself a Versace dress – one of the most glamorous stops on the international tennis tour awaits!
