The Cardinals are the football team of the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio, Texas. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Southland Conference.
📜 Incarnate Word Cardinals Football History
University of the Incarnate Word fielded its first football team in 2009. Originally, the Cardinals competed in the Lone Star Conference in NCAA Division II.
In 2013, UIW moved up to Division I, joining the Southland Conference for all sports except football, in which the Cardinals competed as an independent. The school joined the conference for football before the start of the 2014 season.
