The Illawarra Hawks are a professional basketball team based in Wollongong, Australia. Competing in the National Basketball League (NBL), they play their home games at WIN Entertainment Centre.
📜 Illawarra Hawks History
The Illawarra Hawks were founded in 1979. Along with the Brisbane Bullets, they are the only other founding members of the NBL still competing in the division. With the Bullets having dropped out of the league between 2008 and 2016, the Hawks are the only team to continuously remain in the NBL since its foundation.
Despite that, success has typically been difficult to come by, with the Hawks lifting their only NBL title in 2001.
In 1998, the team changed its name to the Wollongong Hawks, before reverting in 2015. They also briefly shortened their name to simply "The Hawks," between 2020 and 2021 after entering new ownership, but they once again returned to Illawarra Hawks.
