Hull Football Club, commonly known as Hull FC, and known as the Hull Sharks between 1996 and 1999, is a professional rugby league team which competes in the Super League. The club plays home matches at the MKM Stadium.
📜 Hull FC History
Hull FC was founded in 1865 by a group comprised primarily of ex-pupils of Rugby School. The team's early fixtures were likely played across many differing football codes, with rules and regulations commonly dictated by local variations and preferences, at the time. In 1870, however, Hull FC officially adopted rugby rules for its future games.
Following rugby's schism of 1895, Hull FC struggled to immediately make a mark on the new Northern Rugby Football Union. By the beginning of the 20th century, though, the club was becoming stronger and more consistent; between 1908 and 1910 Hull FC lost 3 consecutive Challenge Cup finals, but in 1914 the club finally won its first, beating Wakefield Trinity in the final.
Hull FC soon began making its mark on the top flight of English rugby league, too, winning championships in the 1919-1920, 1920-1921, and 1935-1936 seasons. The team's success continued following World War Two, with further championships secured in the 1955-1956 and 1957-1958 campaigns.
The 1980's brought further silverware for the Humberside outfit, with a Challenge Cup win coming in the 1981-1982 season, and a First Division championship win the following season. The 1982-1983 title was to be Hull FC's final one to date, though Challenge Cup success has continued into the Super League era: Hull FC won the trophy in 2005, 2016, and 2017.
