📜 Huddersfield Giants History
The history of Huddersfield Giants can be traced back to the formation of the Huddersfield Athletic Club in 1864, which itself grew out of informal, amateur rugby matches in the area dating back at least as far as the 1840's. The club grew in stature over the second half of the century, with Huddersfield players being named in both Yorkshire and England sides prior to 1900.
In 1895, the club became a founder member of the Northern Rugby Football Union, and during the early 20th century was one of the First Division's strongest sides: Huddersfield won the championship in the 1911-1912, 1912-1913, 1914-1915, 1928-1929, and 1929-30 seasons. Following World War Two, the club added to its trophy cabinet, collecting championships in the 1948-1949 and 1961-1962 seasons. Huddersfield's success wasn't just restricted to the First Division, however - the club also lifted 6 Challenge Cups between 1912 and 1953, as well as 12 Yorkshire Cups between 1909 and 1958.
Huddersfield has been less prolific in the Super League era, however the club did win the League Leaders Shield during the 2013 season, after finishing the regular season at the top of the table. Despite a strong home and away campaign, however, Huddersfield failed to reach the grand final, losing to Warrington Wolves in the play-off semifinals.
