The Bison are the football team of Howard University in Washington, D.C. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
📜 Howard Bison Football History
Howard first fielded a football team in 1893. The team competed as an independent until 1912, when the Bison joined the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. This membership lasted for almost 60 years, during which Howard won the conference championship twice and the black college national championship 3 times.
In 1971, the Bison moved to the MEAC, and would go on to claim 2 further black college national titles in the 1990s.
Howard played UNLV in 2017 and won the game, marking the first time ever that the Bison had defeated a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team.
