The Rainbow Warriors are the football team of the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, in Honolulu. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the West Division of the Mountain West Conference.
Hawai'i's athletic programs get their distinctive nickname from an incident in 1923, when the football team upset Oregon State and a rainbow appeared over Moliili Field. After this, local reporters began to call all the university's sports teams "the Rainbows."
The Rainbow Warriors claim 4 conference titles, all won in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Hawai'i was a member of the WAC between 1979 and 2011, beginning its current spell in the Mountain West Conference in 2012.
The Rainbow Warriors play their home games at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
