📜 Harvard Crimson Football History
Harvard has one of the oldest football programs in the US, having fielded its first team in 1873. Players and coaches at Harvard were instrumental in the development of American football as its own sport, and a Harvard-McGill game in 1874 was one of the first games to resemble the modern form of football.
The Crimson were one of the dominant forces in the earliest college football era, claiming 9 national titles between 1890 and 1919.
Harvard was a founding member of the Ivy League in 1956, and has remained in the conference ever since.
More than 30 former Crimson players have gone on to compete in the NFL.
