The Germany women's national team, also known by the nickname DFB-Frauen, represents Germany in women's international football competitions such as the FIFA Women's World Cup, UEFA European Women's Championship, and Olympic Games.
History
Germany's first game came in 1982, at the time still operating as West Germany.
It did not take them long to achieve international success; they were crowned as European champions for the first time just 7 years later.
Indeed, like their male counterparts, Germany's women's team wasted little time in establishing themselves as genuine powerhouses on the international stage. Between their first victory in 1989 and 2013, DFB-Frauen racked up 8 Women's Euro titles, with their only blemish in that time being a 4th-place finish in 1993.
They became the first back-to-back winners of the Women's World Cup when they earned consecutive titles in 2003 and 2007, while in 2016 they earned their first Olympic gold medal, having previously had to settle for bronze in 2000, 2004, and 2008.
