Lorenzkirche, also known as St. Lorenz, is a major medieval parish church in the centre of Nürnberg, Germany. This large Gothic church stands on Lorenzer Platz, just south of the Pegnitz river, and today serves as one of the city’s principal Evangelical Lutheran churches.
The church regularly hosts religious services, organ recitals and sacred music concerts, making use of its renowned acoustics and significant pipe organ. Construction of the present Gothic building began in the mid‑13th century, replacing an earlier Romanesque church on the same site, and continued in stages into the 15th century. Lorenzkirche was heavily damaged during the Second World War, with its roof, interior and many artworks affected, but it was painstakingly restored in the post‑war decades. In modern times it remains both an active place of worship and a major architectural and tourist landmark in Nürnberg, noted for its intricate façade, rich interior decoration and important works of medieval religious art.
