As its waterfront is lined with cool bars and clubs, the area competes with Aldstadt for a top night out.

Creative types would prefer the edgy artsy Flingern, the hipster neighbourhood of Dusseldorf. Find indie shops, galleries, bars, and cafes throughout that will immerse you in the city’s alternative side. While it’s just a few train stops from the old town, it’s worlds away in style. Plus, it’s one of the most budget-friendly parts of the city.

For a more upmarket stay in Dusseldorf, opt for the Friedrichstadt neighbourhood located immediately south of the old town. Home to Kongsallee, a shopping street with luxury shops and restaurants along the canal, you’ll be able to immerse in the most refined side of the city.
