The Eagles are the football team of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA and play in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference.
Georgia Southern claims 6 national titles from the program's time in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), the last coming in 2000. Between 1993 and 2013, the Eagles competed in the Southern Conference of the FCS, winning 10 conference championships. In 2014, the program transitioned to the FBS and joined the Sun Belt Conference, taking home the conference title in its very first season as a member.
The Eagles have a passionate rivalry with fellow Sun Belt Conference team Appalachian State, who also used to play in the Southern Conference. The Mountaineers lead the rivalry, which is thought to be one of the most underrated in college football.
Georgia Southern play their home games at Paulson Stadium.
