The Hoyas are the football team of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Patriot League.

Georgetown's football program dates to the 1870s, although the team did not compete in intercollegiate games until the next decade.
In 1951, faced with financial losses, the university president dissolved the Georgetown football program. This lasted until the 1960s, when football eventually returned as a club sport. Varsity football returned to campus in 1970, and the Hoyas moved to the NCAA Division I in 1993.
Georgetown joined the Patriot League in 2001.
The team nickname derives from the official Georgetown cheer, "Hoya Saxa," which means "what rocks!" in a combination of Ancient Greek and Latin.
