📜 Fremantle History
Founded in 1994, the club is one of the more recent professional Australian rules football sides to join the AFL, and became only the second from Western Australia to join the league, following the admission of the Perth-based side West Coast Eagles in 1987. The city of Fremantle, however, has a significant Aussie rules heritage, with high-profile matches played in the city since the late 1800's.
In 1993, the AFL announced the creation of the new Fremantle-based franchise, and by late 1994 a squad had been assembled. Despite the city's proud identity as an Aussie rules city, however, Fremantle failed to finish higher than 12th until the 2003 season, when it finished 7th, qualifying for the AFL finals for the first time. In 2006 the club then had its most successful year by that point, finishing 3rd and winning 1 of its 3 finals matches.
After 2010, Fremantle began finishing higher up the table more consistently, and reached the finals in 5 out of 6 seasons between 2010 and 2015.
