The Rams are the football team of Fordham University in the Bronx, New York City. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Patriot League.
📜 Fordham Rams Football History
Fordham first fielded a football team in 1882, when the school was still known as St. John's College. The team competed independently for its early decades, and achieved great success in the first half of the 20th century. In 1939, Fordham took on Waynesburg in the first ever college football game to be shown on television.
The Fordham football program struggled in the years following World War Two, and was discontinued after the 1954 season. This hiatus lasted until the 1960s, when football returned to the university as a club sport. In 1970, Fordham returned to NCAA competition.
The Rams have competed in the Patriot League since 1990, recording their first conference championship in 2002.
