The Rattlers are the football team of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
๐ Florida A&M Rattlers Football History
Florida A&M fielded its first football team in 1907. The team competed independently until 1926, when the university joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). This membership lasted more than 50 years, during which the Rattlers won 29 SIAC conference titles.
Florida A&M moved to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in 1979 and continued its success, winning 8 conference championships between 1988 and 2010.
The Rattlers left the MEAC to join the SWAC in 2021, and claimed their first SWAC title in 2023.
Florida A&M has won over 15 black college football national championships.
