The FEI World Championships – also known as the FEI World Equestrian Games – are competitions in the equestrian disciplines of jumping, dressage (including para-dressage), eventing, driving, and vaulting for competitors from across the world. They are organised by the sport's global governing body, Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI).
Inaugurated in 1990, the event is held every 4 years, usually equidistant between 2 Olympic Games. Before 1990, disciplines had their own individual championships, but the FEI decided to combine them into one huge festival of sport.
Some onlookers may be less familiar with the Driving World Championships which follows on from eventing. As the only equestrian sport where the horse is not ridden, driving sees carriages drawn by 1, 2, or 4 horses depending on the individual competition. It is a spectacular sport to watch and offers something very different from eventing.
In 2026, the FEI World Championships will head to Aachen, Germany, from 10-23 August. It is set to be a celebration of equestrian sport with events and competitions taking place constantly across an incredible fortnight!
