The EuroHockey Championships – as the top division of the EuroHockey Nations Championship – are international field hockey tournaments. The men’s and momen’s competitions run alongside each other across the same dates at the same venue.
The inaugural men’s tournament took place in 1970, with the first women’s competition happening in 1984. It is organised by the European Hockey Federation (EHF), and the top 8 ranked men’s and women’s European national teams qualify and are placed into their respective EuroHockey Championship.
As there are several old rivalries, it makes for a thrilling spectator sport. When the tournament is held close to the Summer Olympic Games or the Men’s or Women's Hockey World Cup, the winner of the tournament is awarded a place in those competitions.
