Empoli Football Club - more commonly known as Empoli FC or simply Empoli - is an Italian professional football club based in Empoli near Florence and currently playing in the country's top tier Serie A. The club plays home games at Stadio Carlo Castellani.
Founded in 1920 as Foot Ball Club Empoli and Union Sportiva Empoli which formed to create the club in its current form, Empoli spent a lot of its early years in the lower divisions of the Italian professional football system. In recent decades, the side has played in Serie B and in Serie A. In Europe, the club's best result was its participation in the UEFA Cup in 2007-08.
