The Colonels are the football team of Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in Richmond, Kentucky. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the United Athletic Conference.
π Eastern Kentucky Colonels Football History
EKU first fielded a football team in 1909. From 1927 until 1948, the Colonels competed in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
In 1948, EKU joined the Ohio Valley Conference, where they remained until 2020. During this period, the Colonels won 21 conference championships, including 17 outright and 4 shared.
In advance of the 2023 season, EKU became a member of the United Athletic Conference, a new conference resulting from the merger of the ASUN and WAC.
