📜 Derby County History
Among the most historic clubs in England, Derby were founded in 1884 by members of the Derbyshire County Cricket Club. The football team were not permitted to use the full Derbyshire name by the Derbyshire FA.
Just 4 years later, the Rams became 1 of the 12 founding members of the Football League, and they are 1 of just 10 to remain in the EFL throughout its entire history, with the vast majority of that spent in top flight or 2nd tier.
Derby reached multiple FA Cup finals early in their history, but it was not until 1946 that they managed to lift it for the first time, while in 1972 and 1975 they won the First Division title. The first of those came under legendary manager Brian Clough, who also guided them to the semifinals of the European Cup the following campaign.
In 2007-08, Derby set the unenviable record of the Premier League's lowest ever points total when they finished the season with just 11, having won only one game.
