Dallas Wings, also known simply as the Wings, are a professional women's basketball team based in Dallas, Texas. The Wings play in the Western Conference of the Women's National Basketball Association and their home arena is College Park Center.
Dallas Wings History
The Wings were founded in 1998 as the Detroit Shock, who were among the WNBA's first expansion teams as the league entered its second season.
The franchise earned a great deal of success in Detroit, lifting the WNBA Championship in 2003, 2006, and 2008; the first of those saw Detroit make history as the first team in the WNBA to finish rock bottom of the league and then win the championship the following season.
In 2010 the Shock relocated to Tulsa, where they spent 5 years with little success, only reaching the WNBA Playoffs in their final season there; in one campaign they finished the season with just 3 victories in 34 games.
The team relocated again in 2015 to Texas, becoming the Dallas Wings. While the Wings are still chasing the success of their Detroit era, their fortunes have improved considerably compared with their stint in Tulsa with much more consistent playoff qualification.
