The Big Red are the football team of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Ivy League.
📜 Cornell Big Red Football History
Cornell boasts one of the oldest college football programs in the United States. The school's first ever game took place in 1887, when Cornell lost to Union College.
During the 1915 season, the Big Red won all 9 of their games, leading Cornell to claim the national title. They went on to achieve this feat a further 4 times, in 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1939.
In 1940, Cornell went into a game against Dartmouth on a 16-game unbeaten streak. After the game, footage revealed that the Big Red had used 5 downs in the last play, and Cornell chose to forfeit their victory and end their streak.
Cornell has won 3 Ivy League titles, claiming the conference championship in 1971, 1988, and 1990.
