Programme Verdi - Requiem Confirmed artists for Orchestre Hélios: Verdi’s Requiem Orchestra - Orchestre Hélios Choir - Choeur Hélios Ephémère Conductor - Mathieu Cabanes
Description “Nocturne No. 20, Waltz in A minor”, Waltz Op. 70 No. 2, Waltz No. 15, Waltz Op. 34 No. 2, Waltz Op. 69 No. 2 by Chopin / Mozart’s Requiem Relive the concert held in tribute at Chopin’s funeral at Église de la Madeleine on October 30, 1849. Chopin decided with those around him that Mozart’s Requiem would be performed at his funeral at Église de la Madeleine. At eleven o’clock in the morning on October 30, 1849, three thousand people filled the church, which was draped entirely in black. As the coffin was brought up from the crypt, an orchestra played Chopin’s Funeral March in an arrangement by Napoléon Reber. Then organist Louis Lefébure-Wély performed the Preludes in E minor and B minor. At the end of the ceremony, Mozart’s Requiem resounded, performed by the orchestra and choirs of the Société de concerts du Conservatoire, conducted by Narcisse Girard, with soloists Pauline Viardot and Luigi Lablache. Dynamic and eclectic, Orchestre Hélios has established itself since its creation in 2014. Its artistic director, Paul Savalle, promotes the professional integration of young musicians through orchestral practice. In this way, young graduates join orchestral musicians, conductors and experienced soloists in optimal working conditions. From Baroque to contemporary music, the programmes are varied, and the repertoire is both symphonic and choral, with the orchestra joining forces with departmental and regional choirs. Through its collaborations with different conductors, the musicians explore a very rich repertoire and expand their interpretive range. They all come from France’s leading conservatories, and some are members of a national orchestra. From string quartet to symphony orchestra, via brass ensemble, the orchestra continually broadens its audience by varying its composition. The “strings” formation performs in Paris’s most prestigious churches, enabling audiences to discover a rich architectural heritage. Its flexible formation allows Orchestre Hélios to explore a very broad repertoire with passionate curiosity.
