History
The Crew were founded in 1994 as 1 of the 10 founding members of MLS. In 1999, they moved into Columbus Crew Stadium, MLS' first soccer-specific stadium, and they remained there until moving to Lower.com Field in 2021.
Columbus have won a number of major trophies over the years, starting with the US Open Cup in 2002; the won the Supporters Shield and MLS Cup for the first time in 2004 and 2008, respectively, trophies they've now won on multiple occasions.
In 2017, the franchise was slated for a move to Austin, but the club was bought by Ohio-based businessmen including Jimmy Haslam, owner of the Cleveland Browns, to prevent the move, with Austin gaining a new expansion team instead.
