Chicago Stars FC, often shortened to the Stars and formerly known as the Chicago Red Stars, are a professional women’s football club based in Chicago, United States. They play in the National Women’s Soccer League, the top tier of the women’s game in the country, and stage home matches at Martin Stadium in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Founded in 2006, the club joined Women’s Professional Soccer for its inaugural 2009 season, then moved through the Women’s Premier Soccer League and the one‑season WPSL Elite after WPS collapsed. In 2012 they became a founding member of the NWSL and have since been recognised as one of its most competitive and stable sides. The Stars reached the NWSL Championship final in 2019 and 2021, and were runners‑up in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, while earlier lifting the USASA National Women’s Open in 2012. Long associated with leading internationals such as Christen Press, Sam Kerr and Julie Ertz, the club began a new era in 2024 with a rebrand to Chicago Stars FC under an ownership group led by Laura Ricketts.
