Charlton Athletic are a professional football team based in London, England. They play fixtures at their home ground, the Valley.
📜 Charlton Athletic History
The club was founded in 1905 by a group of teenagers, and in 1921 they were voted into the Football League.
A memorable FA Cup run soon after in 1923 earned the Addicks a reputation for "giant-killing" after they dispatched Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion, and Preston North End, all of whom were in the top flight.
Under the innovative management of club legend Jimmy Seed, Charlton became the first side to earn back-to-back promotions from the Third Division to the First Division between 1934 and 1936, and they almost won the league during their first season in the top flight, finishing as runners-up just 3 points behind champions Man City.
Charlton also reached back-to-back FA Cup finals in 1946 and 1947, winning the latter to lift the trophy for the first time.
The club has endured more difficult times since Seed's departure in 1956, and between 1985 and 1992 they were forced to vacate the Valley for financial reasons. In the modern era, their most successful period was a stint in the Premier League between 2000 and 2007.
