The Celtic Football Club, more commonly known simply as Celtic, are a football club based in Glasgow, Scotland. They play in the Scottish Premiership, with their home ground being the eponymous Celtic Park.
Along with bitter local rivals Rangers, they are one of the undisputed giants of Scottish football, and they can proudly claim to be 1 of just 5 clubs in world football to have won more than 100 honours in their history.
Celtic History
Celtic were founded in 1887 as part of a fundraising effort to alleviate poverty in Glasgow's East End. The club's origins are deeply rooted in the Irish immigrant community, and this history is still celebrated by its fans today.
The Bhoys quickly established themselves as a dominant force in Scottish football, a status they enjoy to this day having won more than 50 Scottish league championships, more than 40 Scottish Cups, and more than 20 Scottish League Cups. They've won 9 consecutive league titles on 2 occasions, have accomplished this feat between 1966-1974 and 2012-2020.
Despite their remarkable history, one Celtic team stands out above all others; the "Lisbon Lions" of 1967.
The team won every competition they entered that season – scoring a world-record 196 goals across the campaign – making them the first club to win the European treble and the first British club to win the European Cup. They also remain the only team to win the "true" quadruple, that is winning their domestic league, both major domestic trophies, and the European Cup/UEFA Champions League in the same campaign.
The Lions' line-up for the final as they defeated Inter Milan 2-1 at the Estádio Nacional in Lisbon was comprised entirely of players born within 30 miles of Glasgow, enhancing their legend further.
