📜 Castleford Tigers History
Castleford Tigers joined the English rugby league pyramid in 1926, ahead of the 1926-1927 season. The club finished bottom of the Northern Rugby Football League table in its inaugural season, but by the early 1930's it had become a more consistent performer; after some lower-half finishes in the league in the 1920's, Castleford finished in the top half for the first time in the 1932-1933 season.
In 1935 the club won its first major silverware, the Challenge Cup, beating Huddersfield in the final at Wembley Stadium. Castleford would have to wait over 30 years for its next Challenge Cup, winning both the 1969 and 1970 editions of the competition. Castleford Tigers would also go on to win the 1986 Challenge Cup.
More recently, major silverware has eluded the West Yorkshire outfit, but the club did win the League Leaders Shield in 2017, after finishing the Super League regular season at the top of the table by a margin of 10 points. Cas would lose the grand final to Leeds Rhinos, however, conceding 24 points and scoring only 6, at Old Trafford.
