Visitors who are keen on hitting the typical tourist hotspots like Parliament Hill and the city’s museums will be best situated on Spark Street and other Downtown areas. From here, it is easy to reach Ottawa’s highlights on foot and get a true sense of the city.
The neighbouring Centretown is a slightly calmer and more casual alternative to the busy Downtown streets. However, it the neighbourhood itself boasts an exciting mix of shops, bars, and more to keep you entertained. Plus, it’s just minutes form Downtown on foot.

Budget travellers would be much more comfortable in The Glebe, a cool and quirky neighbourhood south of Centretown. While the area is considered pretty affordable, it is also pretty desirable due to its attractive array of independent shops and restaurants.

But while Lower Town is laid-back, Byward Market is always buzzing with the atmosphere of its locals bars and clubs, making it the place to stay for a night on the town.
Families may prefer the more peaceful and wholesome atmosphere of Downtown Rideau, which is just moments from all the city’s highlights on foot. Alternatively, head to Hull across the Ottawa River for even more space and quietude.
